Motivational Monday 09.11.23

This Motivational Monday will be a little different than the tone that I want to set because of what today is. 12 years ago, we went through a tragic event as a nation. I was only in first grade, but what I remember most from that day is learning that President Bush had flown into Barksdale Air Force base in our city to escape his known location in Florida and figure out how we move forward as a nation. My aunt lived in NYC for sixteen years and two of her friends were killed that day. The most moving moment I had around the waterfalls of the memorial in NYC was finding their names and having a special moment with her remembering and honoring them with a moment of silence. To this day, I try to not stop around the memorial because I want that moment to be my best memory of it.

I’ve heard of different ways people have acknowledged or honored the day. The most common one is those doing the stair master challenge of 110 flights of stairs. I just read one workout that someone created and put in our RunDisney Facebook group where you run/walk 9.11 miles if you’re able and trained to and do 4 sets of strength exercises for the four planes that were highjacked. I think I may do the later one if I’m going to do an exercised based theme or I may find something else to do to honor those who lost their lives that day.

As far as quotes go, I wanted to share two quotes that stood out to me the most and have the biggest impact on life. I want them to speak for themselves, so I won’t put my comment or thoughts on them after. Y’all have a great week!

“Even the smallest act of service, the simplest act of kindness, is a way to honor those we lost, a way to reclaim that spirit of unity that followed 9/11.”
President Obama in a 2011 radio address

“If we learn nothing else from this tragedy, we learn that life is short and there is no time for hate.”
Sandy Dahl, wife of Flight 93 pilot Jason Dahl, in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, in 2002
