Who here thinks I’m going to get all the book reviews for the year up by January 🤦🏼♀️. April was a slower month for me reading because this was the month I was really starting to look for a house to buy along with other events and busy work month. However, I did read a few amazing romance books that everyone has been talking about.

Hook, Line and Sinker – Tessa Bailey
The sequel to It Happened One Summer, this novel follows Piper’s sister Hannah and her relationship with Brendan’s friend Fox. Becoming best friends with Fox during the sisters summer stay, Hannah decides to stay with Fox when her company is filming a movie in Westport. I loved getting to go back into this fun town and family and I honestly loved Hannah and Fox’s story more. It must be the friends to lovers trope that I love to read. I loved all the music references throughout the book and not only did it have me looking up a playlist for them on Spotify, but it also had me itching to go shopping for more vinyls.

The Spanish Love Deception – Elena Armas
Catalina needs a date to her sisters wedding, especially because her whole family thinks she has an American boyfriend, including her ex and his fiancee. Her only option is Aaron, the coworker she despises. BookTok has blown this book up, and I knew I had to read it. I loved the mix of English and Spanish phrases and learning more about the culture. Fans of enemies to lovers trope will love this book. The only downside to it is that it is a lengthy novel and it does move very slow in the first half of the book. There were lots of sections that felt unnecessary and page fillers.

The Christie Affair – Nina de Gramont
A Reese’s book club pick for February, this book follows Nan, the mistress and eventual second wife to Agatha Christie’s husband Archie and the days when Agatha goes mysteriously missing. This book created mixed feelings for me because I did not enjoy the storyline of Agatha’s missing days at all, which was the main plot of the story I felt like. What really drew me into the story was Nan’s life story and the heartbreaking life she had to share. I highly recommend this novel for those interested in World War I and the convents for unwed mothers.

In a New York Minute – Kate Spencer
Franny is having the worst day of her life when she is saved from an embarrassing moment by Hayes. The moment was caught on video and ends up going viral and everyone thinking they are the perfect couple. For two people who are opposites, they keep running into each other in the city. This book has me laughing and feeling the chaotic energy of Franny’s life. I also loved the detailed description of New York City and even the heavy presence of Brooklyn. This was such a lighthearted fun strangers to lovers book.

Fool Me Once – Ashley Winstead
Fool Me Once is a second chance political romance following Lee, who is a communications director for an electrical car company and doesn’t believe in love. Ben is her college ex-boyfriend who is the new policy expert for the governor of Texas. I thought this book was super cute, but unfortunately it didn’t give me the political romance feels that Meet You in the Middle gave. I felt like sometimes they were forcing romantic moments between the two when it should’ve been a time focused on the political storyline. But I loved seeing the character development in Lee as one who doesn’t believe in love when every relationship she’s had ended by the other cheating, starting with her parents. If you want something lighthearted to read after election day and love a second chance romance, this book is a good pick.
