“When you give joy to other people, you get more joy in return. You should give a good thought to happiness that you can give out.”— Eleanor Roosevelt
I’m just jumping right into this week’s Motivation Monday. These past weeks have been so busy at the restaurant and so I’ve been focusing on that a lot more lately. With that, I’ve been around the servers more than usual and also dealing with a larger volume of customers with May being Mother’s Day weekend and graduation season.
Today in church, our pastor was talking about how Christian people spend their time going to church and bible study, but also turn around and write hateful things on social media or say hateful things to other people. Being in the restaurant industry, we get our fair share of people who get angry with us when their order doesn’t come out perfect or anything else goes wrong with their experience or honestly if they just don’t get their way.
The same goes with a group of young adult girls. They all start getting cliquey and they always pick a girl to gang up on because either they just don’t like her or said girl doesn’t conform to how they think things should be run. They spend so much time and energy pissed off at the world and hating people because there’s drama.
Hating people or spending your day full of anger is exhausting. Don’t get me wrong, being happy all the time can be tiring some days, but I imagine trying to find the bad thing or hating a person is even more exhausting. It doesn’t take much to just ask someone how their day is going or for them to have a great day when you leave them. I try my best to tell someone to have a great day when I leave a drive thru, a restaurant or any place of establishment or at the very least, make sure I thank them.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not perfect. There are days where it’s very hard to maintain a joyful attitude, especially when I’m nearing the end of a fifty hour week at work, but it’s also very hard for me to get into a full negative mood where I can’t even fake joy to people. It’s impossible for someone to be happy all the time because this thing called life can get in the way and hit you with hardships.
We talk a lot about spreading love to everyone, more so this month with it being Pride Month, but let’s also spread more joy. Maybe it will change someone’s day or even their life.
