Hey y’all! I am determined to get caught on book reviews before the start of 2022 to start the new year off right! What that means is a lot book reviews are coming your way and October was no joke as far as how many books I read. There were so many great books that I read during October that sucked me in and had me read them in 2-3 days to where I was able to read 7 books this month again!
This months book review included a contemporary romance that to this day I’m still obsessed with and have taken BookTok and Bookstagram by storm. It will easily be in my top 5 favorite books of the year. But enough teasing, here are the reviews for all the books I read in October. I’m also going to make these reviews shorter than usual to not make this post extra long.

We Were Never Here – Andrea Bartz
The summary of this book had me intrigued from the moment Reese announced it as her September book pick. However, the beginning started off slow and it was hard for me to get into the book at first to where I had to push to finish. I enjoyed the stories of their travels and their friendship, but this is definitely more of a psychological thriller than just a thriller. The ending felt a little chaotic, and you were left wondering what really happened on the first trip where someone went missing. The epilogue also seemed to hint towards a repeat of what had happened on previous trips.

The Kiss Quotient – Helen Hoang
After reading the Heart Principle, I knew I needed to read the other two books in the series ASAP. I can see how Helen Hoang became such a popular contemporary romance from her very first book. The depth of characterization she puts into both main characters makes it feel like a real relationship where both sides have trauma and personal issues they have to overcome. This book hooked me in from the start, and it only took me two days to read. This is a great book for those finding themselves stuck in a book rut and needed a quick and easy read with a story that gets you hooked in. For those that want a novel where the main character is on the autism spectrum, written by one who is also on the autism spectrum, this book series is for you. I can’t wait to read the second book in the series to complete the trilogy.

The Love Hypothesis – Ali Hazelwood
I read this book at the beginning of October and I still can’t stop thinking about it. Any fan of romance, READ THIS BOOK. This book will definitely be in the top 5 books read this year. Olive gives me all the chaotic energy one can give while also being passionate for her doctorate research in STEM. This book confirmed that I’m obsessed with the fake dating to real trope and I want to read all the books like this. I don’t want to spoil too much about this book, but it gave me all the feels and sent me on a roller coaster of emotions. I can’t wait to see all that Ali Hazelwood will create in her career after this book.

The Ex Hex – Erin Sterling
This was my spooky book for the month of October and it was such a cute read. A mix between Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Halloweentown/Hocus Pocus, this book was the perfect light spooky read. The only complaint I had about the book is that, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, it focused too much on the romance and I wanted more of the magic. There were scenes when it felt like we were going to get some magic involved and instead it turned into a flirty scene between Viviane and Rhys. That being said, I would still like a sequel to this book to see Viviane and Rhys continue their journey.
I read this book as a physical copy for my October Book of the Month selection.

In a Book Club Far Away – Tif Marcelo
I can’t believe it took me so long to read this book. I picked this book as an add-on in May to my Book of the Month subscription and just got around to reading it in October. This book is a dual timeline, starting in the present and jumping back in time to when the three friends met and were stationed together at the same fort. I loved that the book was separated into parts based off the book they were reading in the past. This sotyr focuses on the power of friendships and the depths people will go through to protect their friends. For anyone who loves a book about friendship with a hint of drama or a book about army wives, this book is for you.

The Hating Game – Sally Thorne
I wanted to read this book before the movie came out in December and saw there was a short wait for it at the library. This book is your typical enemies to lovers book and reminded me why its not my favorite romance trope. There was one scene where they’re in an elevator and what happens in that scene feels like it was supposed to be a dream and not reality. There also wasn’t a “dark period”, when the couple breaks up or goes their separate ways for a while. As much as those scenes can be heartbreaking, it adds more depth to the storyline in my opinion and helps drive a storyline. Without that dark period, I didn’t realize that I was at the end of the novel until I flipped to the last page.

Rock Paper Scissors – Alice Feeney
This is my first Alice Feeney novel and it did not disappoint. On an anniversary trip gone wrong, there were so many twists and turns throughout this story. I’m going to try my best to give my thoughts on this book without spoiling them. I loved the letters to Adam that was sent on every anniversary and how their marriage got to where it is now, except it isn’t what you think it is. The three point of views worked so well in this novel and the plot twists were spread out across this book, ending with a major plot twist on the final page. I would love for this book to be adapted to the screen and see this story come to life and I will definitely be reading more of Alice Feeney’s novels.
I read this book as physical copy from Book of the Month as a September add on.
