Motivation Monday 2.21.22

This is a series I’ve been wanting to start for a while, but normally I’m coming off a long and hard week at work on Sunday nights and end up spending the nights relaxing and winding down for my day off. However, with this new work schedule, I feel like I’m able to do more things, such as get back to writing blog posts on Sundays like I did when I was in NYC.

This was my first Sunday to be able to attend church in almost two years that wasn’t a holiday service, and I was not only excited and nervous about just attending in general, but I also attended a new to me church today with my friends. I loved the service and I chose the perfect Sunday because they started a new series to work through. During the sermon, he used this quote as the main reference point and it stuck out to me and stayed with me. I knew I had to use it for the first motivation Monday post.

So the main focus for this weeks Motivation Monday is a quote by Confucius:

“By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.”

This quote stuck out to me because of all the changes that we are going through at work and so while we are giving out a lot of wisdom, we are also receiving a lot of wisdom from those who have run larger restaurants successfully. However, when they were talking about this quote at the end, they mention having someone to help guide you through either difficulties in your life or milestones.

The friend group that I have built and made stronger over the past year are those people. We have all dealt with difficult things in our lives and had to make some tough decisions in the past year and being able to have people to either vent to or get advice from helped pull me out of a darkness that I could have either gone into or even gone further down into a feeling of loneliness and isolation. We learn from each other (wisdom by imitation) and we talk through all the issues that are weighing on our mind (wisdom by reflection).

My biggest struggle is wisdom through experience because I’m afraid of what others will think of me if I mess up or don’t do something well. I’ve learned the best way to keep myself calm and not overwhelmed is to try to learn something new everyday that is either beneficial to my work or just a fun fact to teach others because I found in interesting.

Thing week, I encourage you to gain wisdom on at least one new topic, whether it be beneficial to your everyday life or just something you always wanted to learn more about. I also encourage you to find a person that can be a guide for one thing – whether it be something simple someone who can teach you how to work technology better or it be someone who can help you through an issue you are currently struggling with in your life.

Have a great week ❤️
